R Kelly was attacked in the Chicago federal lockup by an inmate who was upset about the lockdowns caused by having a celebrity on the cellblock. Apparently the facility has been going into lockdowns every time there’s a pro-Kelly protest outside of the jail.

According to Steven Greenberg, Kelz’s lawyer, when the facility is locked down, inmates don’t get their commissaries and showers. “Since they’re fairly sporadic anyway, they get upset,” Greenberg explained. “They’re penalizing everyone in the facility because people are protesting in support of Kelly.

Sources say that the fellow inmate walked into R’s cell and started attacking him. The singer received minor injuries in the dust-up. He was placed in solitary confinement because that’s the only way jail staff can protect him. As for the attacker, it’s not clear what, if any, punishment he’ll face.
