Brie Larson may play Captain Marvel, but off-screen she’s a human just like the rest of us. In a new interview for “W Magazine,” the Oscar-winner opens up about struggling with her insecurities.
For the magazine, the actress was asked what advice she’d give women who don’t feel represented by society’s unrealistic beauty standards. Larson’s answer? She doesn’t “believe there is a beauty standard.” While she’s long struggled with “feeling ugly and like an outcast,” she finds “solace” in that she can be “whoever” she wants with herself.
“What breaks my heart is to think of people in the world who don’t feel that they have safety within their own bodies,” she adds. “That, to me, is the ultimate goal in life: to do whatever it is that I can so people have the freedom to express themselves and be exactly who it is that they want to be.”
