Nebraska guard Britt Prince scored her 1,000th career point as she led Nebraska women’s basketball to a 98-35 win over Western Illinois Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The Cornhuskers (2-0) never trailed the Leathernecks, bolting out to a 14-4 lead just over three minutes into the game and never looked back en route to the victory. WIU was the Ohio Valley Conference champion last year and qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
Prince led Nebraska with 19 points, shooting 7-for-13 from the field. She is the 39th 1,000-point scorer in NU women’s basketball history. Amiah Hargrove added 17 points with eight rebounds, while Ashlyn Koupal tallied 16, and Allison Weidner and Emily Fisher both contributed 10 points. The Huskers converted 33 Western Illinois turnovers into 38 points. Nebraska also dominated the glass, outrebounding the Leathernecks, 38-24.
The 63-point margin of victory is the 7th-largest in school history for the Huskers, and the Nebraska defense held WIU to single-digit scoring in the first three quarters. The Huskers led 28-9 after one quarter, 49-17 at half and 75-23 through three quarters.
Nebraska now prepares to face North Carolina A&T Tuesday at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30 p.m., with tipoff at 7 p.m. on KLIN.
