Lancaster County Sheriff’s Deputies took a highly intoxicated driver off the road Sunday evening, pulling over a vehicle speeding at 68 mph in a 55 mph zone near Southwest 63rd and West O Street, around 11:15 p.m. The driver, identified as 36-year-old Thein Pyu of Lincoln, exhibited signs of potential impairment.

Lancaster County Chief Deputy Ben Houchin described the encounter, stating, “There was a strong odor of alcohol. Gentleman failed all sobriety tests. He was taken down to the adult detention center. He was unable or unwilling to give us an exact or long enough breath sample. But it did register with the slight air that we did get, at a 0.34.”

This marked the third DUI violation for Pyu, elevating the case to a felony charge. Chief Deputy Houchin emphasized, “This is his third offense for driving under the influence. He was cited for DUI, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and cited for speeding…We’re just glad the deputy was able to get him stopped before anything could have happened.”
