Paris Hilton says people assume “everything came easy” to her, but it didn’t always – and she’s “ready to show the world” who she “truly” is. Ahead of her new YouTube documentary “This Is Paris,” the heiress has opened up to “People” about her dark times in boarding school.

Paris was sent to several boarding schools in the 1990s, for being a “rebel” and repeatedly sneaking out and going to clubs and parties. The last one she went to was Utah’s Provo Canyon School for 11 months… and Paris claims the staff would “instill fear in the kids” with physical and verbal abuse, including solitary confinement for as long as 20 hours a day.

“From the moment I woke up until I went to bed, it was all day screaming in my face, yelling at me, continuous torture,” Paris says. “They wanted to instill fear in the kids so we’d be too scared to disobey them.”

  • “This Is Paris” hits YouTube on September 14th.
