A chance to take a win into the Big Ten Conference tournament was ripped away in the closing moments Sunday at Northwestern (9-14,6-13 Big Ten).

Nebraska (7-19,3-16 Big Ten) trailed by as much as 16 in the first half, but fought back to take a 68-67 lead with under four minutes to go in the game. The Huskers led by as much as four until Northwestern went up 77-75.

The ensuing possession saw Trey McGowens complete a three-point play to take the lead with a minute remaining. The Huskers had a chance to extend the lead, but a turnover on the next possession gave the Wildcats one last chance with 11.5 seconds to go.

Northwestern’s Pete Nance was forced into a tough shot that missed the mark, but Ryan Young got the putback for the victory 79-78.

Kobe Webster scored a game-high 23 points, including going 7-of-12 on 3s. McGowens was the only other Husker in double-figures with 15 points.

Nebraska is the 14-seed in the conference tournament. The Huskers will play in the late game Wednesday.
