The type of game was different. The result was the same. After losing a 1-0 pitchers’ duel Friday, Nebraska baseball fell to Iowa, 11-6, Saturday in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes clinched the series win with the victory Saturday.

With the game tied at two in the top of the fourth, Cael Frost hit a three-run home run to give NU a 5-2 lead. A two-run home run by Miles Risley in the fifth cut the Cornhuskers’ lead to 5-4, but in the top of the seventh, a Joshua Overbeek home run pushed the lead to 6-4, Nebraska. Iowa responded in the bottom of the seventh when Kooper Schulte hit an RBI single to left, pulling Iowa to within 6-5.

Then in the bottom of the eighth, the Hawkeyes took over. Ben Wilmes homered to tie the game. A sacrifice fly by Daniel Rogers pushed Iowa ahead, 7-6. Caleb Wulf’s RBI single pushed the lead to two, and a three-run home run by Andy Nelson punctuated the rally.

Luke Broderick (2-1) took the loss for Nebraska, allowing three earned runs in an inning. Brant Hogue (2-1) captured the win, throwing three no-hit, shutout innings. Risley paced the Iowa offense, hitting 2-for-4 with two RBI and a home run. Case Sanderson was 2-for-4 to lead the Nebraska offense.

The Huskers will try to salvage the final game of the series at Iowa Sunday. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 12:30 p.m. on KLIN.
