A three-run double by Gabe Swansen in the bottom of the ninth propelled Nebraska to a 7-6 win over Kansas State Tuesday at Hawks Field. The win was NU’s (22-23) first in three tries against the Wildcats.

The teams traded runs in the third inning. After K-State scored in the top of the sixth, the Cornhuskers responded in the bottom of the sixth. Case Sanderson singled to left to drive in two runs and push Nebraska ahead. Hogan Helligso followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 4-2. The Wildcats took the lead right back in the top of the seventh. David Bishop drove in a run with a single through the right side. Then K-State took the lead on a two-run single to right by Sam Flores. Flores drove in an insurance run in the ninth to build the Wildcats’ lead to 6-4.

But in the bottom of the ninth, Dylan Carey led off with a single to left field. With one out, Robby Bolin singled through the left side, moving Carey to second. Cayden Brumbaugh was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After Max Buettenback struck out for the second out, Swansen ripped a double down the left-field line, clearing the bases and vaulting the Huskers to the win.

Nebraska now prepares to face Minnesota in a three-game series at Hawks Field beginning Friday at 6 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at 5:30 on KLIN.
