No. 4 Nebraska softball scored seven unanswered runs to defeat Omaha, 11-4, Tuesday night at Connie Claussen Field in Omaha. The Cornhuskers (37-6) have won 12 straight and 26 of the last 27 games.
The Mavericks (29-9) took the lead, 1-0, as Taylor Sedlacek hammered a home run to left. Nebraska took the lead in the top of the second. Hannah Camenzind drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game, then Ava Kuszak hit a two-run double to give NU the lead. Alexis Jensen lined a home run to center in the top of the third to push the Huskers’ lead to 4-1, but in the bottom of the third, Marra Cramer crushed a three-run home run to left-center to tie the game at four.
In the top of the fourth, Kacie Hoffmann reached on a fielder’s choice to second base, driving in a run to give Nebraska the lead, 5-4. Jesse Farrell followed with a three-run home run to center to push the lead 8-4. In the fifth, Kuszak hammered a two-run home run to center field, pushing the lead to 10-4. Samantha Bland pushed the lead to 11-4 in the top of the sixth with a home run to left field.
Kuszak led the offense, hitting 4-for-5 with four RBI, a double and a home run. Camenzind came out of the bullpen to throw four one-hit, shutout innings of relief to earn the win.
The Huskers open their final home series of the regular season against Iowa Friday at Bowlin Stadium at 5:30 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at 5:15 p.m. on B-107.3.
