The Nebraska softball team rose to its highest ranking ever in the NFCA Coaches Poll, rising to No. 2 in the most recent rankings, released Tuesday. The Cornhuskers received 11 first-place votes, just behind No. 1 Oklahoma’s 18 first-place votes. Nebraska came within 11 points of matching the top-ranked Sooners for the highest ranking.

Last weekend, the Huskers finished the Big Ten regular-season championship with a 23-1 record, matching Indiana in 1994 for the most wins in conference play by a Big Ten team with a conventional schedule. Nebraska is 43-6 with an 18-game winning streak, with wins in 32 of the last 33 games.

The Huskers have a first-round bye in the Big Ten Tournament, which opens Wednesday in College Park, Md. Nebraska will play Thursday at 12:30 p.m. against the winner of Ohio State and Michigan. Pregame coverage begins at 12:15 p.m. on B-107.3.
